Birmingham’s Temple Emanu-El will finish celebrating the centennial of its historic domed sanctuary with Selichot services on Aug. 24 at 7:30 p.m.

Over the last century, several churches have been housed in the sanctuary for a variety of reasons — fires, renovations or new congregations that did not have their own buildings yet.

Representatives from Southside Baptist Church, South Highland Presbyterian Church, Independent Presbyterian Church, Baptist Church of the Covenant and Living Stones Temple will participate in the service.

Hebrew Union Congregation in Greenville is also doing a different schedule for Selichot, having it after the Aug. 23 Shabbat service.

Selichot Services: All are Aug. 31 unless otherwise noted.

Knesseth Israel, Birmingham: Film at 8:30 p.m., service at 11:30 p.m.

Temple Beth-El, Birmingham: Dessert reception, musical presentation and service. 8 p.m.

Temple Emanu-El, Birmingham: Aug. 24,7:30 p.m. (see above).

Temple Emanu-El, Dothan: Screening of “Hava Nagila” at 6 p.m. with covered dish dinner. Dessert and drinks provided, bring a dish to share. Service follows.

B’nai Sholom, Huntsville: 8:30 p.m., not 7 p.m. as previously announced.

Ahavas Chesed, Mobile: “Free Men” screening. Film is about Muslims in the Paris Mosque who helped North African Jews escape the Nazis. 8 p.m.

Springhill Avenue Temple, Mobile: Candlelight service with the volunteer choir. 7 p.m.

Agudath Israel-Etz Ahayem, Montgomery: 8 p.m.

Temple Beth El, Pensacola: Screening of “The Thing About My Folks” with Paul Reiser, followed by discussion, 7 p.m. Service, 9 p.m.

Alexandria Community Havdalah and Selichot: 5:30 p.m. at B’nai Israel.

Beth Shalom, Baton Rouge:
8 p.m.

B'nai Israel, Baton Rouge: 10 a.m.

Temple Shalom, Lafayette: 8 p.m.

Northshore Jewish Congregation, Mandeville: 9 p.m. dessert reception, 10 p.m. service

Beth Israel, Metairie: 8:30 p.m.

Gates of Prayer, Metairie: “God in the Box,” 7:30 p.m. Reception, 9 p.m. Service, 9:30 p.m.

Anshe Sfard, New Orleans: 10 p.m.

Temple Sinai, New Orleans:
7 p.m. screening of “I Never Sang For My Father,” starring Gene Hackman as a 40-year-old who has to put his professorial plans on hold when his mother dies and he has to contend with his irascible father. Service follows at 9 p.m.

Touro Synagogue, New Orleans: Congregants are invited to join the Confirmation class for a film and discussion at 5 p.m. The film will be selected by Rabbi Berk for Selichot. At 7 p.m., there will be a dinner and discussion, while the kids have “Selichot in Pajamas,” stories and Havdalah with cookies and milk. The Selichot service will begin at 8 p.m.

Bnai Zion, Shreveport: Havdalah and Selichot, 8 p.m.

Hebrew Union Congregation, Greenville: Aug. 23. Shabbat service and dinner, 6:30 p.m. Two short films by “Food for Jewish Thought,” 8:30 p.m. Discussion and Selichot follow.

B’nai Israel, Hattiesburg: Sept. 8, 3:45 p.m.

Beth Israel, Jackson:
Service and dessert reception, 9:30 p.m.
